Artificial Intelligence Policy

This policy aims to establish ethical and scientific standards regarding the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) in articles submitted to our journal.

The fundamental objectives of this policy are to ensure the proper use of GAI in academic writing and analysis, and to uphold the principles of data privacy and academic integrity.

This policy will be updated as necessary in line with developments in the scope, manner and capacity of AI tool usage.

This policy is subject to the ethical principles and publication policies of the Turkish Journal of Islamic Studies AI tools may only be used to check grammar, spelling errors and stylistic consistency in articles submitted to the journal. Turkish Journal of Islamic Studies undertakes not to use NLP tools at any stage of the publication evaluation process.

Points to Consider When Using NLP:

  • Transparency and Accountability: Every process in which NLP is used must be transparent. The contribution of AI tools must be stated clearly, specifying at which stages and how they were used and how the data was collected. Turkish Journal of Islamic Studies will present the author’s statement on the cover of published articles.
  • Accuracy: The accuracy of the content/information produced by AI tools must be verified, the data obtained must be checked against sources, and the information must be validated.
  • Responsibility: The author is responsible for all data produced as a result of using AI. Therefore, the author must carefully examine the points where they have benefited from AI and be aware that the responsibility lies with them.
  • Impartiality: Authors must clearly declare any potential conflicts of interest and act in accordance with the principles of impartiality. Regular monitoring and evaluation processes should be established to ensure the impartial use of AI.
  • Confidentiality and Security: The confidentiality and security of personal data must be protected. The privacy of parties involved should be respected during data collection, storage, and processing, and appropriate security measures should be taken.
  • Citation: AI should not be cited in footnotes or the bibliography. The use of AI should be stated in the ethics statement section.
