Articles submitted to the Turkish Journal of Islamic Studies undergo the following procedures:
- The editor evaluates the originality of the article, whether its subject matter falls within the scope of the Turkish Journal of Islamic Studies, and whether it satisfies the required formal criteria.
- At the second stage, the article undergoes a pre-review by one or more members of the Editorial Board who specialize in the relevant field. No peer review is conducted at this stage; rather, a decision is made solely as to whether the article will proceed to the peer-review process. Articles that receive a negative outcome at the preliminary review stage are returned to the author.
- Following the pre-review, the article is sent to two referees who are specialists in the subject and experts in their respective fields. The identities of both the author and the referees are kept strictly confidential. In the event that the referees express conflicting opinions, the article is sent to a third referee.
- The referees’ reports are shared with the author. After the author submits a revised version in light of these reports, the final version of the article is evaluated by the Editorial Board together with the referees’ reports and—where applicable—the author’s responses. The Editorial Board decides whether to publish the article, to request further revisions, or to return it to the author. The issue in which the article will be published is likewise determined by the Editorial Board.
- Authors of articles accepted for publication are requested to sign the Declaration of Transfer of Financial Rights.
- The article is copyedited by İSAM’s proofreading and bibliography services and subsequently undergoes two additional editorial readings.
- Upon receiving the author’s approval, the article attains its final form and is published in the designated issue.
Research notes are not subject to peer review; after being evaluated by the editor, they are reviewed by one member of the Editorial Board. If the Editorial Board decides to publish such submissions, the subsequent procedures are identical to those applied to research articles.
Review articles and book review submissions are evaluated by the Book Review Editors of the Turkish Journal of Islamic Studies. Following the completion of the revisions requested from the author, the Editorial Board determines whether the submission will be published, and the subsequent editorial procedures are then carried out.
